Hi everyone,
I have an O2 broadband Box, the V2 one. The white box, left from the previous provider(O2) as now I am with BT Broadband. I have been looking online for the last 3 days for a solution as i would like to bring this box to it's original Thomson firmware.
My box is actually a Thomson TG585v7 that runs O2 firmware.

The closest "solution" i have found online was:
1) Copy from O2 CD the recovery tool on the desktop.
2)Download the latest firmware from Thomson's website
http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/SelfService/SpeedTouchDocuments/firmware_UK_gen_TG585v7_en_7-4-4-7.zip
3) Extract the recovery tool with WinRAR and replace the firmware file inside with the one you've just downloaded making sure the name of it is changed too.
4) Put the PC on a static IP address.
5) log on to the router via the web interface (192.168.1.254) using the super user account:
User = SuperUser password = O2Br0ad64nd
6) Now run the recovery tool.

In my case it did work...or kinda work. It took something like 15 min at least and I have decided to stop it.
At the restart it come up with Thomson firmware just that it takes 10-20 min to get the DSL signal and it keeps crashing...any idea why it does that?
I have tried to flash it again just that this time it wont do it again.
Each time I try it comes up with this error:
Recovery has failed.
Failed to transfer firmware image to the Thompson gateway device.

Any idea?

Did you try the B Unlimited firmware? Is on Thomsons website ready for download. Apparently is better than the O2 one, as it gives you more options and you don't have to struggle with so many settings as you've tried above.

If you have the Thomson version TG585v7 then you can use the Firmware upgrade software;

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=51Z7WCLY

The actual Thomson firmware here (7-4-4-7 is the one available);

http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish/customer-service/dsl-modems-download/Pages/default.aspx

As I have said over and over, if you have an O2/BE or any other ISP provided version of the 585v7 it is locked and can only use that firmware, you will need to follow the instructions in the downloads available here:

Alcatel_5x6_585_608_780wl_v1.1.3.7z (http://download.modem-help.co.uk/utilities/JTAG/Alcatel/)

It involves opening the router, making a JTAG connector and using the provided software to extract the cfe file from you router (which contains the MAC etc) and rewriting part of it with a HEX editor. You then flash the new CFE back, then use another set of software to flash the generic firmware onto the modem.
This process is not guaranteed and can brick your router.
