Unable to change workgroup name in Windows XP

I have a major problem here. I would like to add my PC to a local network just that the workgroup name cannot be changed. I have removed my Norton Firewall, restarted the computer still no joy. please help!

You need to install Client for MS Networks for the NIC you are using. From the Network and Dial-up Connections menu, right click on your NIC then choose properties then - Install then chose Client for MS Networks - ADD.
That should get you running ...
