I have to state this is for Intel based systems only (mainly laptops) and you would be well advised to IMAGE your disk BEFORE YOU TRY THIS just in case something happens and you cannot load your Vista (IMAGE, IMAGE, IMAGE!!!)

Once you have your disk images precede with the following:

Backup your registry or make a restore point just in case.

Under search: regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\

Locate: folder "iaStor"
Under "iaStor" you will find a folder named "Parameter" > delete this folder

Locate: folder "iaStorv"
Under "iaStorv" you will find a folder named "Parameter" > delete this folder

Reboot

hi Carl,
No offence but what is this supposed to mean?
VISTA PAUSE? I see that you've flooded the whole internet with this so called issue on nobody's request. Can you detail please or you'll have the post removed.
Thanks.

p.s. To all users, do not try the above "solution" until I give you "Green Lights"

Ok that registry edit sounds like a cool hack but only if you have the intel controllers right?
And here is what the above hack is supposed to fix just in case you might need it:
The problem is every now and then vista will "freeze" the current task you're doing for 20-30seconds. The way you know you have this is go to your event viewer and look in the error column, you should see iaStor or iaStorv with errors next to it. Clicking on it will show it timed out. It's a problem with vista and the intel controller it waits for the process to time out which takes about 30seconds and yes, the solution it is the one posted above by tech_guru_papa
Thank you TGP
