The best Antivirus solution in the world....top 10 Antivirus....best Antivirus software....number one Antivirus solution....
I simply hate to see the results I obtain when I type “top ten Antivirus software” on search engines like Google, MSN Live or Yahoo. It always comes up with sponsored links, or highly optimized pages by particular vendors in order to mislead the potential buyers.
Ignore them:
THE RESULTS ARE FAKE.
Best Antivirus,Software? There is NO Top 10 Antivirus or top 5 Antivirus. Not even a top 3 Antivirus.
Why? Because there are too many factors to take in calculation:
Virus & Malware recognition
Real-time scanner, On-access scanner, heuristic scanner,
Resources consumption
Online-Offline protection (web, messenger, pop3-mail, script)
After sale support
Scanning speed
Automatic virus definition updates (how often) and automatic program update (free or paid)
Definition database
Price, etc.
There are 25,000 to 35,000 unique pieces of malware being submitted to anti-virus labs around the world each day, and the vast majority of these will be delivered via web based exploits and social engineering tricks from hacked and rogue websites, therefore the antivirus software is, for many home computer users, the primary method for protecting their computer from threats.
Don't like people promoting a particular vendor only for the benefits they get e.g. 40% - 60% discount etc.
This is another form of advertising promoted especially by AVG & BullGuard through individual resellers and by Norton and McAfee mainly via chains like PC World, Currys, etc.
If you go to PC World and ask for the best antivirus software the agent will always recommend Norton.
Why? Because each time the agent sells you a copy of Norton he puts 50% in his pocket; giving you an honest answer it won't put a penny in his pocket.
If someone recommends you AVG or Bullguard ask them if they are resellers of these developers. And if they are, I bet that the recommendation they make is based on that 40% - 60% discount they get as a reseller, extra money they make thanks to you. SHAME!
The only pertinent/reliable authority when it comes to Antivirus Vendors is Virus Bulletin (http://www.virusbtn.com/index). They run constant Antivirus comparatives & tests that should give you a good idea of what to buy and install on your PC. (See the attached screens).
Another good source of independent reviews is AV Comparatives (http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/overview.html). Click here (http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/overview.html)to see their comparatives from 2004 to 2008 inclusive.

I know it might hurt to see that your favourite Antivirus is not as good as you thought it was.
Maybe Norton was the best Antivirus in 2003 as they claim on the covers of their 2007-2008 products. But that was 6 years ago...
Don't be sentimental. Be competitive. Be selective. Be careful.
Do not stick with Norton or McAfee just because they were already installed on your PC when you bought it from PC World or simply because these were the only products you have heard about when your grandfather had a PC.
Don't just install AVG antivirus just because it is for free.
I am not going to create a top 10 Antivirus in this post.
Based on Virus Bulletin Comparative Tests for 2008 - 2009 the best would be GDATA Antivirus followed by AVAST (i bet you've never heard about these two products before) and one of the worse would be AVG Antivirus made by Grisoft.
When it come to price, again, AVAST is free for home users and GDATA is by far cheaper than Norton, McAfee and ¾ of the vendors.
I have personally tried them all: AVAST, Avira, NOD32, Norton Antivirus, McAfee, AVG, Sohpos, BullGuard, etc.
My choice at the moment is AVAST: Excellent Antivirus, very light on resources, you cannot tell if it's scanning or not while Norton or McAfee would slow down everything even off-scan. Remember the after sale support.
That’s all (more or less) for today. I will try to keep this post updated. Please leave your opinions here as we all need them to make this a better and a safer world for us all.
Thank you.
Remember!
Use only ONE Antivirus software at a time on your computer!
