HP Wireless Driver - Error 104 - Unsupported Wireless Network Device Detected

In an attempt to upgrade the Wireless adapter (Wifi card) on your HP DV9000 or DV6000 series notebook, you may encounter a "104 Unsupported Wireless Network Device Detected" error. This all so famous error will just after system post, during startup leaving your HP laptop unbootable until you remove the newly installed Wireless adapter.

104 Unsupported Wireless Network Device Detected error:

This error occurs because, from the factory, the system BIOS on all HP motherboards have been locked to allow only whitelisted hardware (HP approved hardware) to be detected.

In order to install a wireless network adapter that was not originally available on these HP laptops, one must modify the factory HP BIOS to remove the whitelist and then flash the HP motherboard with the modified BIOS bin. For the average person, this task may be a little complex. However, if your using a DV6000t or DV9000t series Intel HP Laptop and are looking for the unlocked BIOS bin so that you can upgrade your wireless adapter, your in luck. I have already prepared a fixed F.29 BIOS bin file with the whitelist removed.

Removing the Whitelist on DV6000 and DV9000 BIOS - modified bios:

Proceed at your own risk! By proceeding, you agree not to hold us accountable for any damage that may result!

Note: This has only been tested to work on BIOS version F.29 for DV6000t and DV9000t series HP laptops with the Intel processor. Do not use this on systems with an AMD processor. I have personally used this modified F.29 BIOS to flash a dv9030us laptop and have since installed a Wifi Link 5100 wireless A,B,G,N adapter without a problem.

1. Remove the new wireless adapter that was causing the error and reinsert your old wireless card

2. Download the F.29 BIOS version (see attached)

http://support.bicestercomputers.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=163&stc=1&d=1236763714

3. Run sp38012.exe. Once the Phoenix Secure WinFlash utility starts, click Exit. DO NOT Flash BIOS!

4. Download the modified 30BBF29.WPH BIOS bin file and copy it to your C:\SwSetup\SP38012 folder, overwriting the old one.

5. Next, do one of the following:
* If you are on a Windows 32bit OS, navigate to C:\SwSetup\SP38012\SWinFlash and run SWinflash.exe
* If you are on a Windows 64bit OS, navigate to C:\SwSetup\SP38012\Winphlash64 and run Winphlash64.exe

6. This time when Phoenix Secure WinFlash utility starts, click Flash BIOS and follow the onscreen instructions.

7. After the BIOS has been flashed, your system will shutdown. Once it has shutdown, insert your new wireless adapter and start your machine

If all goes well, you should not encounter any errors and your system should proceed to boot as normal.

Hello,

I'm having the same issue with my Compaq Presario V6650ED (in fact also an HP).
I now have a Intel Pro 3945ABG mini PCI Card and want to use a different brand.
Same error of course. I've found some answers and tried it myself to do but with no luck as it is complicated. Could you do the trick for me with the bios I attached?
I would really be grateful!

Ed

After reset computer with new bios I got the same error 104...

ok, I fix it :D
Additionally I replaced file BIOS.WPH in directory C:\SwSetup\SP38012\SWinFlash
After that everything works great.
