Problem:
"I tried to boot it up this morning and I have the following black screen error:
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status 0xc000000f
An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
I get the normal insert disk message, the thing is, I don't have a disk to run (rather foolishly I never burnt the disk from the partitioned drive)
Can anyone please help me?
Many thanks "
Solution:
The problem is caused by Vista Boot Loader which needs repairing.
Back in the days of Windows XP, it didn't take much effort to fix a broken bootloader. Just stick your Windows XP in the drive, hit 'R' for the recovery console, and fixmbr to your heart's content.
But with Windows Vista and its new bootloader, things have become infinitely more complex. There are a lot of files that need to be restored, tons of data that needs to be recreated, and a lot of configuration that needs to be set up just to get Windows Vista to boot. And if you're aiming to dual-boot, it's that much harder.
There are currently two ways of repairing the Windows Vista bootloader:
With EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+with+EasyBCD) via the Diagnostics Section. (Recommended, Easy to use and guaranteed results)
By booting from the Windows Vista DVD (http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Recovering+the+Vista+Bootloader+from+the+DVD) and using the recovery console. (Use if you cannot boot into any version of Windows to use EasyBCD)
Just follow the given links, there problem and the repair solution is explained in detail.
Kind regards,
