Symptom: You receive the following error message after clicking a link in Outlook: This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.

Cause: This seems to be caused by uninstalling Firefox (such as I did, when I uninstalled Firefox 3 beta) or whatever your default browser happens to be.

Microsoft's Fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325478

My Fix:

On Windows XP:
Go to Control Panel, Add Remove Programs. Then on the left, choose Program Access and Defaults. Open up whichever configuration is currently selected and change the default web browser selection to something other that what is currently chosen. (change the default browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox, restart the PC. Now test the link in Outlook.
If it work, you can revert to your previous default browser if desired.
On Windows Vista:
Control Panel -> Programs -> Default Programs -> Set program access and computer defaults. Be sure to go into 'Set program access and defaults' and NOT 'Set your program defaults' (it doesn't work going through the latter). Then, once in 'Set program access and defaults,' expand the Custom tab and change from 'Use my current Web browser' to Firefox (or IE, depending on which you prefer) and click OK. Close Outlook and reopen and links in email should now open your preferred browser.
